Dr. Joshua Kellogg has joined the Center for Molecular Toxicology and Carcinogenesis and the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences as an Assistant Professor of Metabolomics.

Dr. Kellogg received his B.S. in chemistry from UC Berkeley in 2004, an M.S. in natural product chemistry from the University of Illinois in 2009, and earned his Ph.D. in natural products from North Carolina State University in 2014. From 2015 to 2019, Dr. Kellogg conducted research in the lab of Dr. Nadja Cech at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, focusing on developing metabolomics algorithms for natural product and botanical dietary supplement studies. In particular, he worked on building new correlative biochemometric workflows that integrated bioactivity studies with chemical profiling to identify bioactive components from complex mixtures.
Dr. Kellogg’s interests focus on exploring natural resources, including ethnobotanical sources, to discover novel therapeutics, especially understanding the pathways and potential targets of fungal infections. He also is interested in using metabolomic methodologies to investigate microbial and botanical interactions in an ecological framework. He has worked extensively with indigenous cultures across the globe, and looks forward to continuing ethnobotanical research in a participatory manner with cultures to improve human health.
